This is a reminder for all CATI members, student or professional, that the next Triangle Area Social is this Thursday, September 5, from 7-9 p.m. at the Straw Valley Cafe in Durham. If you’re a CATI member or are considering joining or learning more about the translation and interpreting professions, RSVP to Heather Hille at firstname.lastname@example.org and come check us out!
Also, the American Translators Association (ATA) has recently established a new blog aimed at students and newcomers to the profession. It’s called The Savvy Newcomer and today’s post, “Ten Tips for Translators,” written by Holly Mikkelson, is particularly excellent (there are three steps the translator should take before even beginning the draft translation–who knew?). Mikkelson is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, an ATA-certified translator, and a state- and federally-certified court interpreter, among many other achievements, and her expertise shows in this list.
Don’t forget to come out to Straw Valley Cafe on Thursday, and in the meantime be sure to check out The Savvy Newcomer!
